San Francisco: Where Culture and Technology Meet
It's worth braving the traffic to travel at your own pace around San Francisco. From the famous Golden Gate Bridge to notorious Alcatraz and the surrounding wine country, explore the Bay Area in your car rental.
Clam Chowder and Sourdough Bread at the Wharf
For an authentic taste of San Francisco’s finest eateries, shops, and history, start your day at Fisherman’s Wharf. Smell the salty air and taste the local clam chowder in a sourdough bowl at an outdoor table with a gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Chinatown's street markets and restaurants are less than a 15-minute drive from the Wharf in normal traffic.
Folklore and Gangsters on Alcatraz Island
Park you rental car and hop on the ferry to Alcatraz Island. The old federal penitentiary on Alcatraz is now a museum where you can learn firsthand about prisoners like Al Capone, who spent time here. See where the movie "Escape from Alcatraz," starring Clint Eastwood, was filmed.
Redwoods and Reminders of the 1960s
Only 20 minutes from the downtown area, the San Francisco Botanical Garden is nestled inside Golden Gate State Park. Stroll beneath giant redwoods and listen for echoes from 1967's Summer of Love. Take in the good vibes, visit the horticultural library, or enjoy thousands of species of exotic plants and flowers.
